Help create a safer community

Help create a safer community by donating to train members of the Far North Queensland community in suicide awareness, prevention and intervention.

Have you ever encountered someone suicidal and didn’t know how to help? Suicide is the leading cause of death for men and women under the age of 34 in Australia, and Australian statistics record approximately 1800 suicide deaths per annum. However the incidence of suicide is significantly underreported for complex reasons. More people die from suicide than by motor vehicle accidents or by cancer.

In a community that has recently experienced natural disasters as well as feeling the impact of the global financial crisis, it is important to recognise and support people in the community who are at risk or experiencing crisis and linking them to pathways to help them through their difficulties.

Suicide is inherently preventable and having the knowledge of how to support someone experiencing these thoughts really can help save lives.

Lifeline has been providing the Living Works SafeTALK and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) to community members who are prepared to stand up and make a difference against suicide. SafeTALK provides the participants with a confidence to talk openly about suicide if they recognise someone may be at risk. ASIST provides the skills to intervene and support the person through the crisis and link them to resources available.

For just $55 you could provide Living Works SafeTALK (1 day) training to someone who can make a difference, or for $110 you can provide Living Works ASIST (2 days) training which will help create a suicide safer society. These prices reflect the minimum cost of running the training and provide no payment to the trainers delivering the service.

Lifeline has been providing crisis support in Far North Queensland for 40 years and we need your support to continue to strengthen our community.
